THE PHILOSOPHY

Amejko Artistry was essentially born out of a time of great uncertainty that followed a huge life and career change in the beginning of 2019.

I was working as a designer in the surf industry in Southern California. I had gotten married a year earlier, and was commuting back and forth every 4 days to my new home in San Francisco. It was not a sustainable lifestyle...I was completely burnt out by my weekly schedule. I knew I had to make a change, but I had no answers for how to replace my career in design.

Life took yet another twist when my husband and I made the decision to move to Bend, Oregon later that year. I realized once I had settled in, that I felt a sense of peace, of truly being at home for the first time. I was surrounded by such beauty and lush nature....the mountains, the rivers....

That’s when the creativity really started to bloom. I was inspired to create in a way I had never been before. I had always loved the satisfaction of making things by hand, whether it was dabbling in macrame or jewelry design. And so, after many trials and errors (I had barely ever picked up a drill before!), my first Amejko Artistry woven piece came to life.

I had built my career in fast fashion, where the objective was often to make large quantities in the quickest and most efficient way possible. And now my passion and joy comes instead from the meticulousness of making something with my own hands. Not rushing to complete the job, but rather embracing the slowness of each step.

Amejko Artistry at it’s core is really about the beauty of slowing things down, and enjoying the process.”
